Copilot canvases make the workflow a shared interface

GitHub’s Kayla Cinnamon described canvases in the Copilot app: customizable interfaces shared by a user and an agent. Examples include issue boards, release checklists, dashboards, and forms. A user describes the workflow and the controls each participant needs, then works with the generated interface.

Context

Start with the decisions the screen should support. For a release checklist, distinguish adding an item from approving it and publishing the result. A shared canvas is valuable when it makes those states visible. Generating controls is only the beginning; their behavior must match the intended responsibilities.
